Local FOX Affiliate Shows Obama Clip During Sex Offender Story
A recent news segment on KMSP, the FOX affiliate in Minneapolis/St. Paul, aired video footage of what appeared to be a rally in support of Sen. Obama, including an image of the senator and posters bearing his name and reading “Hope 2008.”
What’s wrong with this, you ask? Well, it was shown during a segment on the sentencing of a former school district worker to 24 years in prison for molesting two students. Compounding the egregiousness is the caption that runs over the video clip of the Obama rally: “Sex Offender Sentenced.”

If you’d like to contact KMSP and register your displeasure with this outrageous error, you can do so at this link. Please remember to be respectful. I am trying to identify the original airdate, but in the meantime be sure to note that the reporter’s name is Tim Blotz, that the story was about convicted child molester Richard Rucker, and that the station should issue an apology if it has not already done so.
UPDATE: The segment appears to have aired on the Saturday, January 13 evening newscast.
UPDATE 2: We just received this comment from Bill Dallman, KMSP’s News Director:
As News Director of KMSP, I can assure you this was an unfortunate error. We sincerely apologize. On Friday we changed to a new video server playback system and we encountered a few problems, however that is not an excuse. We are running a correction in our newscasts tonight, and apologizing once again to anyone who viewed this story. I would also add that FOX 9 did an entire reporter package on the “Run Obama” rally here in the Twin Cities this weekend. Clearly this was positive coverage of the groundswell of support for the Senator. I know readers will view this with skepticism, but that’s truly what happened, and again, we are sincerely apologetic. Bill Dallman, News Director KSMP Television.
This is a great response. Running a correction on tonight’s newscasts is an appropriate fix, and an appreciated one. These sorts of mistakes will happen, and it’s good to see that respectfully asking that they be corrected can yield positive results. Thanks to Mr. Dallman for his attention. Good work everyone.

This was not an error….This was intentional. If I did not know who the Senator is I would think the protestors were from the school and the picture of the Senator is the man these charges are against. This was not error. An apology to those in the viewing area should be issued.
