Maybe She Should Try the Audio Version

Posted by JHC in Media

Our good friends over at Vermonters for Obama give a well-deserved smackdown to a petulant Chicago Sun-Times reporter who covers Sen. Obama for the paper and yet seems to think it’s somehow okay that she hasn’t read The Audacity of Hope.

In fact, the reporter, Jennifer Hunter, seems proud of it. Her argument: The book is “preachy and dull” and “goes down like cod-liver oil.” Vermonters’ argument: You’re supposed to be a reporter.

Alas, a little digging reveals that this “reporter” is also the wife of the Chicago newspaper’s publisher. Which I suppose qualifies her to cover the city’s only presidential candidate without having so much as taken the time to read his bestselling, definitive personal and political mission statement.

Vermonters hits the nail on the head:

Remember, this is the person that the Sun-Times has chosen for the all-coveted Barack Obama beat. And she can’t muster the energy to endure a very readable and interesting look at how Obama thinks and what his ideas are for fixing our broken political system? A book that is on the top of the best seller lists and very positively reviewed by many political pundits?

In Hunter’s defense, “Audacity” does have four syllables. Maybe she’d find a different version of the book more accessible.
